D Company was formed in 1971. One of its first recruits Doug Birch (Dad) became the most successful Company Sergeant Major the unit ever had. The Companies habit of winning everything came directly from Doug's influence.
It was his drive, enthusiasm and dedication to D Coy that inspired us to produce this website. It was conceived as a pint of contact.
Sadly this conception was at Doug's funeral in November 2002. Two ex-members supping on a pint to say goodbye to the great man stated that it was unfortunate that we only came together again for funerals or cremations, would it not be nice to meet for other reasons.
However the seed was set. Within a week of that conversation it was decided we must produce a central point for all ex-D Coy members to communicate. So, three ex-members gathered and the "D Coy point of contact" became a reality. We also decided to join the Ely parade each year to give us a focal point to the year.
We started by posting hundreds of letters over Christmas 2002/3. After 2 months we had made contact with over 70 ex-members. With the list still growing we decided a web site would be a good method to communicate. We hope it will help you keep in touch with old friends scattered around the country and around the world. It can easily be updated, so if you have anything you wish entered or if you have any other ideas please send us an email with your thoughts. Today in 2016 we have over 150 contacts with another joining about every 6-7 weeks. If you bump into any D Coy members introduce them to this site.
WE HAVE SINCE ADDED A FACEBOOK PAGE SO IT IS EVEN EASIER TO MAKE CONTACT. find our facebook page by clicking here
We hope the idea is carried forward for years to come.
